Mount Fuji
A poem by Johnny Levy. Mount Fuji | Shakes her white hair | Into the sky.
Spoken Word Version
Written Version
Mount Fuji
Shakes her white hair
Into the sky.
Her laughter is
Terrible and crisp and
Strong, striking the heart
Like a gong,
Vibrating down to the knees
With the irresistible pull to
Bend downward.
To bury thyself
In the land before her,
In awe.
A Queen.
A good Queen.
A good and terrible Queen.
With blue lips and
Blazing eyes
Of flint and ice.
What is this twinning
Between the beautiful
And the terrible?
Is awe the child
Between Love and
Holy Terror?
A lifted chin
That human hands
Will never bend?
When faced with the
Immutable Mountain
Something
inside us
Will either bend
Or break.
